Just starting to run and not confident yet! The highlights of my running career include running 5 miles through the hills of west salem. ha. 

Short-Term Running Goals:

Excited to actually finish a race this year! First a 1/2 marathon then H2C!

CDA1/2 Marathon without dying.  

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep in shape, healthy.  Use running/excercise as a form of thearapy and way to clear my head.  It always puts me in a better mood no matter what! 

Personal:

Happily married with a doggie, Frank and a cat Phoebe.  Human children in the future, God willing!

Weather was better this morning, not so cold. But very foggy. Despite the run, still feel bloated and just plain fat.  I've put on a legitimate 8lbs since October. Time to get my nose to the grind!! Too much alcohol and sodium rich foods. I hate the water weight from all the salt intake!

Need to update my goals:

Run 1000 miles this year, H2C again... various small races, 1/2 marathon..

Yes! I hit my goal for the week!! Ran four days and ran 7 today, now need to do the same next week.  It felt so great running more than 5-6, it's been forever!! Maybe 8 next Saturday.  I felt surprisingly good. Today was the best day ever too. Had a great run, then got a massage then the Seahawks won, very unexpectedly! Oh, and when I got home from my run my husband was folding the huge heap of clean laundry!  What a guy.. I hate folding laundry.

Ran with Frank before work, very windy out!  But it was warm and not raining too much.  I'll take what I can get.  I seriously, seriously cannot wait for it to be sunny and bright in the mornings!!! Spring/Summer can't come fast enough.  I miss it sooo much.  Running in the dark is scary and unmotivating.  I always feel great after I get it done but bring on the UV rays!!

First day back in so long! Felt a little weird, I have to admit. But it was great to be out running.  Jordan and I went together and I had my Garmin, so it was like a double rainbow! Walked a lot on mile 3.. so outta shape!!

Okay, this was BRUTAL!! I felt absolutely terrible.  Tired, tired and out of shape.  Getting back in to this is not fun. I just wanted to walk the entire time because I was so tired.  So I basically did. Work has been soo incredible crazy lately too which doesnt make things easier.  Cold, rainy and dark. This was interesting... Went out after work to have a couple of drinks with coworkers because it was someones last day.  I told Jordan no matter what, make me go running with him. So like a good husband, he waited for me to go running and when I got home he insisted that I go, even though I was in no mood. (Funny how things come full circle?!) So, went for a short run- not as bad as I though but still no good.

It was very windy, incredibly windy!! But started to feel good, at least it was sunny! 

In-laws came and helped us spread bark dust in the flower beds and it felt good to be outside working. Cant wait for summer!! Here's to more 5mile ++ runs!! :))) And less walking!

It is so nice to have someone who encourages me to get out, even if it is just for a couple of miles.  Once again, I didnt want to go running but Jordan made me!! :) Plus I know Frankie needs it too! (PS- He went to the vet yesterday and he's lost 20lbs since this time last year!!) I guess pets do start to look like their owners, or is it the other way around?! They say he is good health and will live longer because of the weight loss.. Good deal.

I dont know why last night I felt so great and then this morning I was so tired and slow?! Oh well, still happy I got out.  It was snowing lightly at first but it's not quite cold enough to stick.  I hope it doesnt snow more tonight!! I'm ready for spring and sun! :)  

Hopefully today is better at work than yesterday!  I completely forgot about a presentation and luncheon I was supposed to host at the office. WTHeck?! How did I forget this?!  Luckily, the dealers association called at 9:30am to make sure we were still on and I called in lunch to be delivered, booked a room and threw some slides together and somehow pulled it off.  God definitely had my back on this one!

Had planned to go running with J after work but work was so terrible that I came home hysterical and bawling.  I sometimes don't know how much more of the stress I can take.  But I also know I don't deal with stress very well. I just so overwhelmed.  This is the time I probably needed a run the most.  But we decided to get pizza and ice cream instead to cheer me up... regretted that choice the next day.. 

Oh, so I signed up for a cake decorating class at Chemeketa Community College that starts in May! This is my solution to my crappy job. We'll see where it goes..

Ran this am, it was very windy and kind of rainy but nice that it's not pitch black out. But, I guess that will change next week with the time change. Then it will be light later which is good! Right now I am dreading work so much.  I can barely talk myself into going to the office.  It is so stressful...  Running is the only thing that seems to take my mind off of all the bad stuff going on there now.

This was the day my mommy was coming to town! And I mowed the lawn for the first time this year! Very good weekend. :-)

We went shopping for cupcake baking supplies and toured Le Cordon Bleu in Portland.  Not a match.. At least that's what I am thinking for now.  A little too formal for me. Although, it would be tons of fun, but for the money I don't think it's where I want to go.

Also, made blackberry cupcakes with the blackberries mom and I picked last summer, I forgot I had them! Found them in the back of the freezer.  Cupcakes were pretty good, a little dense because I think the berries were so heavy and I may have used too many.  But they were good, nevertheless.  Practiced the monkey faces for Jessica's baby shower and I took the practice ones to my cousin Marissa's girls in Vancouver.  I'm pretty sure they thought they were fun. Her girls are sooo cute!! :)

Okay, so this is the delima I have. Last week I ran this same loop by myself and I had to walk at some parts up the hill and my ap was around 9:50 I think.  This week, I ran with Jordan and determined to run the entire way with out walking, by slowing our pace way down.  So I did, I ran the whole thing and I was really happy about that but then our AP is really, really ridiculously slow.  What's better? It's weird because I think it's harder to run the whole thing, even running much slower, than it is to run at a somewhat faster pace and have to walk a little bit. 

Anywho, then we went to Portland and toured Oregon Culinary Institute.  Much, much smaller than LCB.  But, I liked it little better.  The courses/classes wast started by the same chefs that started LCB, and many of them are still there today.  Which is appealing to me.  And its much more affordable.

I'm curious to see what I decide to do!!!???

Today mom and I went on about an hour walk through the old historic housing district in Yakima where our bed and breakfast was.  It was really fun to look at the old homes and architecture.  Our B&B was really neat too. It was an old mansion built in 1907, I loved the large porch/balcony off of our room on the third story and the bathroom was so pretty, all white subway tile and the best part was the heated floors! We had a great visit- wine tasting, a little shopping, good food and great company. :)

It is finally starting to be light even when I first start my run in the morning, which is so nice. The worst part of the year (running in pitch black) is done! I am so, so, so excited for spring and nice weather!

I didnt get a long run in last week which was disappointing but this week I'll make it happen. Heading to AZ on Thursday so it will probably have to be early there before it gets hot or on a TM, which i have not ran on for a very long time!

It was quite cold this morning! Luckily I checked the temp before I left and bundled up.

It was pretty clear and looked liket it should be pretty nice out today. I really tried to run faster today, that's why I am so confused as to why my AP was actually slower than yesterday!? ugh. I'll never be as fast as I was AND I was NOT fast at all.  Just seems like I'm a worse runner now than I was a year ago.  Seems like I should be improving- however, I was a pretty big slacker in the fall and winter.  I just now feel like I am getting back into it.

Yay! I did what I did not think I could do! Ran 10 with J and Frank without stopping.  I am proud.  I havent ran 10 in a very long time. But it felt GREAT. Motivated now to do more. I may of just had the greatest run of my life. Yes!! I was squinting at the bright, BRIGHT sun and blue sky enjoying the fresh air, thinking this beats running in the cold, dark, rain in February any day!! But, funny thing is that, in order to enjoy the runs in the summer when its so beautiful out you need to do the runs when its miserable out in the fall and winter. I ran all 5 miles in the VFF's and I feel pretty good. Plus, I had the best AP I've had all year which is encouraging. I was getting sad because my splits are so slow compared to last year. But there is hope. Needless to say I think it's going to be a GREAT day! Here we go Thursday, here we go, CLAP, CLAP!

Plus this weekend is the Keizer Iris Festival 1/2 Marathon and Justin AND Nicole will be here! Yay!  Double Rainbow!

Did not plan to run this pace! After not feeling as "in shape"as I was last year at this time and after drinking/eating pizza the night before I thought a PR was out of the question! But thanks to Nicole 'the machine' Ralston Greene, we rocked it. Once again she pushed me just the right amount! And I'm glad I was able to get a PR, even though the course was a little short, which is annoying.

I'm always amazed with Nicole's running skills! After being injured she is able to push me to do what I think I'm not capable of!  I'm also proud of Jordan and Justin for running the 10K! Jordan ran an 7:37 mile which is ridonculous.  I liked the course because it was pretty flat, just one hellacious hill. It was the worst because you could see it from far away, so you tired and you are just staring at this, what seemed to be a 90 degree angled hill. Luckily it wasnt that long. 

The waste plant was smelling and not nice to breath in while running. The weather held out and it wasnt bad, no rain. :)

We had a great weekend with the Greene's and cant wait to do it again soon!

can't wait for cupcakes! Just left on the way to LC and can't wait for Jumpstin's 46th birthday! Rachael you are an amazing runner and you rocked this race! After races I am always amazed what our bodies can do. After running every day in the 9s and 10s suddenly we bust out 13 miles at 8:30 pace (not feeling 100% at that!). It just doesn't make sense!

Worst run ever! I think I drank like 8 oz of water yesterday and so I felt very dehydrated. Pretty much walked the last 2 miles. Not a good week of running- next week I will be getting back to it!

On another note, I made the cutest cupcakes ever!! They look like a garden and  I cant wait to do them again. Also made poker cupcakes- they didnt turn out quite like I thought they would but they are okay, next time I will do them better with fondant. Yes, it hurts. Especially the right one. It started when I ran the 6 miles in the VFF's. It hurts behind the actual ankle knob, between the knob and the achilles heel. I am hoping that if I take a break from them it will go away. I know its because I still run on my heels in the VFF's. The left one hurts a little- not nearly as much as the right.

Its probably tendonitis - that's what I have been battling. BUT - here is the test. Can you hop up and down on the hurt foot on one leg? Try it 5 times. What is the pain like?

It was so, so, SO beautiful out. These are the days I like to run and look forward to it. Really when I dont get up and run on these days I'm only cheeting myself! Running in the dark, cold, rain in the fall/winter sucks, so not taking advantage of these days is a complete waste!!! I LOVE SUMMER time!!


Right ankle hurts... hopefully it gets better. I feel like icing it would be good, but I always forget to until I start running and it hurts.

Another beaufiful morning. Pace was about average in the 9:40's. I wanted to try my VFF's but I'm scared. I stopped wearing them before anything got too bad.. My heel really started hurting and stinging when I ran. I go back and forth as to whether or not they are a good idea. Why stop a good thing? I feel great right now but on the other hand I really do like wearing them and I think they do strengthen my calves and legs....Hmm.

I feel the same way about the Vibrams and my Merrells. I think I need some more shoes, my heel has been hurting here too I think from wearing a bunch of unpadded shoes (all day for work and such). Wearing heels during the day (even tiny ones that I have) seemed to help, as backwards thinking as that seems. I agree though, why mess up a good thing? YOU ROCK!

Ran 5 this am with the hubby.. I had to beg and bargin for him to come with but he did! It was dark, cold and rainy. I was remembering running in the hot, hot sun during HTC, never take running in the sun for granted! Oh, except we ran in the hot, hot sun on Saturday in Arizona, how quickly I forget! :)

We ran slow, but that's okay.

Stupid, STUPID BLISTER! I hate my feet. I am constantly getting nasty blisters, I almost had to stop today. The one on my pinky toe that I at HTC came back with vengeance. It hurts so bad, I know it's because I run on the out side of my feet then my pinky goes underneath the other toes and causes friction. And I think the tread on the outside of my shoes is worn way down and I need new socks, so its probably my own fault. Ugh.

Any way, 4 miles in the dark/cold but no rain! Woohoo.. :)

You rock! I'm jealous you're running. I have also been having massive blister problems lately, when usually I don't get them at all. It even woke me up in the middle of the night throbbing! Who would have thought a blister could be that bad? Leavenworth Half is next weekend, I soooo wish you were coming!

Jessica, Addison and Andrew came down for the day for a visit. We went to EZ orchards and picked out pumpkins. It was great to see them and spend time with little Addie. She is so cute. She never really cries, just whimpers when she's hungry or tired. We bonded over milk and napping. She's adorable, I want one!!

Five EXCELLENT miles before work. It was dark but it wasnt cold or rainy and it was clear and beautiful. I could see all the stars and towards the end of the run you could see the orange horizon and the sun start to peak out from behind Mt. Hood. I will never get tired of that view. Sometimes it is what gets me motivated to even run in the morning, is seeing the beautiful view of Gods great creation! Not to mention, the stillness of the morning. So quiet and peaceful, it got my day off to a great start. ;-) AND it ended up being a high of 70 degrees! Woohoo... maybe I dont want to move to cold Idaho...?!

They might have too much cushion for you..? Did you like them when you tried them? I think they are really comfortable and I have had zero problems with blisters lately. Granted, I've not been running nearly as much.

Okay. This is my official comeback. I hope. I really want to be more consistant. Not because I'm doing so well at running and working out- actually the opposite. I need this to keep me more accountable. And I'm upset that I missed out on writing about all the excellent runs I had this summer and the one or two races I did. :-( Oh well, I start now. And because I am not running as much- just trying to be as active as possible I will write about activities. ;-)

Jordan and I walked the neighboorhood with Frank and it was FREEZING. But it felt good to get some fresh air and to take the poor pup out. He's been so neglected since I've joined the gym. But, it's my only option. Because I've completely given up waking up early and running/walking outside before work. It's impossibly dark, impossibly cold and when Jordan is gone I get scared. I'm a whiny baby, I know.

Went to the gym before work and was feeling awful, very nauseous. So, I ate my breakfast in the car and decided that maybe I could walk on the TM. But once I started running, I started to feel great! After 3 I felt so good and felt like I could've done way more. So, went to the weight room and did 3 sets of lunges, tricepts and crunches. Did I mention how much I LOVE the gym?! It's so nice, love it! I want to start swimming but I dont know what to do... Need to look up swimming workouts and what strokes are the best for burning calories. (That's what she said).

OH! Yesterday we had our second US and got to see our little baby. It has grown so much in the past three weeks! We even were able to see it move it's head. I swear I could see it's little profile too- cute little nose. Dr. said his head and brain looked healthy and big. :-) His heart beat was excellent and pumping like crazy, it's so weird because it's umbilical cord is so huge and you can see the blood pumping through that too. (I keep saying HE because we think it's a he, but we dont know!) We're finally done going up to Portland for the fertility specialist, woohoo! Now we can see our regular Dr. in Salem.

The trick I play on myself in the morning seems to be working, although it seemed very cruel today. I did not want to go! Too tired. However, when I purposfully leave all of my stuff to get ready for work at the gym in my locker I am forced to go, I have no choice. Of course, I'm glad I went, always am. But now all I want to do is go back to sleep and get rid of this headache.

Went 3 on the TM and did stair climber for 10 minutes. Then situps and streatching.

Blood work today at the new doctors office and real Dr. appt. tomorrow. Hope everything is going well and I hope I finally get to hear the heartbeat tomorrow.

FOUR, yep thats right. ;-) After yesterday's doctor appointment he assured me that running and excersising will make a world of difference througout this pregnancy. Monitoring my HR is outdated and keeping it under 150 is ridiculous- it's actually good for the baby to have my heartrate high. Especially since everything looked so good, doc said all my blood work came back great, my hr and blood pressure were great too. So this was enough to convince Jordan that running more than 3 is okay and perfectly good for buddy and me. ;-) I also go to hear babies HR- it was awesome! Jordan couldnt be there so I recorded it.. If I knew how I would post it. A fast 160 BPM- old wives tale says its a girl if it's that fast! Seems like it's accurate about 50% of the time. Ha.

Anyway- it was a Happy Christmas Eve, Jordan and I went out at his parents house along westside highway. It was nice mild weather and an all around great start to Christmas Eve.

Merry Christmas! J and I did the same path as yesterday but we decided to walk... then the weather went crazy!! Windy and rainy, so we ran home. We were completely soaked by the time we got back. Glad we went out anyway.

It was so fun to see Addie! She was so sweet- crawling and going like crazy! She let me feed her, and cuddle lots. I can't wait!
